WordPress or a managed website for a real estate auction firm?
WordPress is the right choice for an auction firm that has its own developer, wants complete control of the code and is prepared to own the updates. A managed site is the better fit for a firm that wants lot pages, sale status and county pages kept current without anyone on staff touching a theme, a plugin or a hosting account. Both can rank and both can look good; the difference is who carries the upkeep.
Which is right for a real estate auction firm?
WordPress if you have a developer and want total control; a managed site if you want the plugins, updates and lot changes to be somebody else's job.
Choose WordPress if
- You employ or retain a developer who knows WordPress and has time for it.
- You need a custom integration that only exists as a WordPress plugin.
Choose a managed site if you want
- No plugins to patch
- Guaranteed speed on sale day
- A lot page built for auctions
- Articles written for you
What is WordPress, and why do so many auction firms use it?
WordPress is open-source publishing software, licensed under the GPL, which you install on hosting you choose and extend with themes and plugins. That flexibility is why it is everywhere: there is a plugin for almost anything, including listing and auction-style plugins, and any developer can work on it. The same flexibility is what creates the work, because every theme, plugin and core version needs updating and checking.
Whatsaleweeklookslikeonaplugin-heavysite
The hours before a sale closes are the highest-traffic hours an auction site ever sees, and they are the worst possible time to discover that a plugin update broke the gallery or that the hosting plan throttles traffic spikes. A WordPress site can be fast and stable, but that depends on the host, the theme, the plugins and whoever maintains them. On a managed site those are our problem, and the speed standard is a guarantee rather than a hope.
Listings plugins versus a lot page built for auctions
Most WordPress listing plugins are built around residential brokerage: beds, baths, price, saved searches. An auction lot needs different fields at the top: sale date and format, registration deadline, deposit, buyer's premium, status, court confirmation for probate, acreage and parcel numbers for land. You can make a plugin do that with custom work. We start from a lot page designed for auctions and adapt it to your sale types.
How does WordPress compare on the twelve things that matter?
The WordPress column describes typical use in general terms; results depend on how the site is built and run.
| What matters | WordPress | GetHomeAuctionSites |
|---|---|---|
| Speed and Core Web Vitals | Can be fast; depends on host, theme and plugins, and often slows as plugins accumulate. | Custom coded, served from Cloudflare's edge, 90+ Google PageSpeed guaranteed on mobile and desktop. |
| SEO control | Full control, usually through an SEO plugin you configure. | Titles, headings, URLs, sitemaps, redirects and a page for each county you sell in, handled for you. |
| Schema / JSON-LD | Available through plugins or custom code; quality varies. | JSON-LD generated from the page itself: Organization, Service, FAQPage and BreadcrumbList. |
| AEO and GEO readiness | Achievable with deliberate content structure and plugins. | Answer-first pages, visible FAQ blocks, cited facts and an llms.txt file. |
| Hosting and security | You choose, pay for and manage hosting and SSL, or pay a managed host. | Cloudflare hosting, SSL, CDN and DDoS protection inside the monthly fee. |
| Maintenance burden | Core, theme and plugin updates, backups and security are ongoing work. | None on your side. We patch, update and watch the site. |
| Who does the work | You or your developer. | We do. You send changes from the client portal: 5 revisions a month, each within 2 to 5 working days. |
| Content and blog | Excellent blogging tools; writing and publishing are yours. | 2 to 3 researched, cited articles a week, depending on plan. |
| Design quality | Anything is possible; depends on the theme and the designer. | Designed around the lot page, sale status and bidder registration, in your brand. |
| Accessibility and compliance pages | Policy pages and consent tools come from plugins you choose and configure. | Privacy policy, terms, cookie consent that blocks scripts, an accessibility statement and TCPA wording on text forms. |
| Cost model | Software is free; hosting, premium themes, plugins and developer time vary. | $127 a month, plus a $697 build fee invoiced only after launch. |
| Lock-in and ownership | Low: open source and portable, as long as you hold the hosting and admin access. | Domain registered in your name, content export if you leave, cancel with 2 business days of notice. |

How to move from WordPress without losing rankings
We review your WordPress site during onboarding: which lot pages, county pages and posts get traffic, and which URLs show up in search. We rebuild what matters, carry your past sale history into the new archive, move your articles across, and set permanent redirects from every valuable old URL. Your domain stays yours; the WordPress install can be retired once the new site is live.

What firms say after switching
An absolute listing now looks different from a reserve one at a glance, and the site stays quick in the last hours before a sale, which is exactly when the old one used to crawl.
absolute and no-reserve auction company, Waco, Texas
Full Docket plan: absolute badges, sale explainer, weekly social posts
Sample reviewOur old site listed a foreclosure sale as scheduled for a week after it had been postponed. That does not happen anymore, because the status is the first thing on the page and it changes when we tell them.
foreclosure and REO auction company, Jacksonville, Florida
Sale Day plan: status field on every lot, sale status alerts
Sample reviewThe registration form asks for exactly what we need and nothing else. Fewer people call just to ask what to fill in, and every registration lands in the CRM tagged to the right tract.
land and farm auction company, Ames, Iowa
Lot Sheet plan: tract pages and bidder registration into the CRM

Questions about WordPress and a managed site
Is WordPress bad for an auction firm?
No. WordPress is capable and widely used. The question is whether your firm wants to own the updates, hosting and plugin choices, or have a managed service carry them.
Can we move our WordPress posts and listings?
Yes. We review what is worth keeping, migrate lot pages, past results and articles, and redirect the old URLs to their new equivalents.
Will we lose search rankings leaving WordPress?
Proper redirects from old URLs to new ones are the main protection, and we set them as part of every migration. Pages that ranked are rebuilt, not dropped.
Can we still log in and edit pages ourselves?
You do not log in to the site. You request changes from the client portal and we make them, which is the point of a managed service. If daily self-editing matters most to you, WordPress may suit you better.
What about our auction or listing plugin?
We rebuild the lot page around your sale types instead of relying on a plugin. If your live bidding runs on an outside auction platform, each lot links to it clearly.
Is WordPress cheaper?
The software is free, but hosting, premium themes, plugins and developer time are not, and they vary. Our plans start at $127 a month with hosting, a domain, updates and articles included, plus a $697 build fee after launch.
Who handles security?
We do. Hosting runs on Cloudflare with SSL, CDN and DDoS protection, and there are no plugins to leave unpatched.
Do we keep our domain?
Yes. We point your existing domain at the new site, and it stays registered in your name.
